Some Benefits for Waiting to Retire

Some Benefits for Waiting to Retire: "For those who want to just keep on going, the government offers a bonus. Social Security benefits increase a certain percentage for each year past your full retirement age that you keep working and postpone taking benefits. The increases are added automatically from the time you reach full retirement age until the time you start taking benefits, to a maximum of age 70. The amount of the increase depends on the year you were born. If you were born in 1936, for example, your benefits will increase by an extra 6% for each year that you delay retirement. You can calculate your own benefits on the Social Security Administration's ANYPIA Program at www.ssa.gov, or call them toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 to speak to a service representative, set up an appointment, and/or receive a free booklet entitled 'Retirement Benefits' (Publication #05-10035).
